I am a Visiting Professor at UniTN and an Emeritus Professor at the University of Limerick, Ireland, where I was Founding Director of the Interaction Design Centre. I am Honorary Professor in HCI at Aarhus University, Denmark. I have also held visiting positions in France, Spain,Italy, Sweden, Finland and Brazil in recent years.
My research interests range from human factors engineering to IT practices in organizations, with a focus on the central role of human and social agents in human-machine systems. This ‘actor’ approach attempts to build on human practices through augmentation, rather than seek their substitution. The implications of such an approach are explored in a variety of areas such as HCI, CSCW , PD and Interaction Design.
